JULY 2026
Tasmanian contractor, Hazell Bros commenced work on site in early July, beginning with archaeological excavation works, as part of the preparatory works, to meet the requirements of the State Policies and Projects (Macquarie Point Precinct) Order 2025.
An Unanticipated Discovery Plan is in place, providing procedures for the management of Aboriginal heritage cultural material if discovered during construction or other ground-disturbing works, was received ahead of these works commencing as per condition AH5 of the State Policies and Projects (Macquarie Point Precinct) Order 2025.
JUNE 2026
A Staging Plan and Impact Assessment of Road Reserves for Stage 1 works were approved by the Secretary of the Department of State Growth of the State Policies and Projects (Macquarie Point Precinct) Order 2025.
The Macquarie Point Development Corporation CEO participated in the Tasmanian Government Budget Estimates Scrutiny Hearings.
Workshops with the Stadium main contract tenderers continued to inform the development of bids.
MAY 2026
The Stadium Design Roadshow continued is presentation in the communities of Bicheno, Devonport, Burnie and Queenstown.
The Contractor for the design, dismantling, storage, and rebuild of the Goods Shed and removal of the Red Shed was announced with the successful tenderer being Hunter Mason Pty Ltd.
The Contractor for the Site Preparation Works – Bulk Excavation and Civil Contractor was announced with the successful tenderer being Hazell Bros Group Pty Ltd.
Request for Tender Stage 1 for main Stadium Contractor continued with workshops with the tenderers to provide information on the project.

APRIL 2026
Our Stadium Design Roadshow was launched providing an opportunity to share the Stadium Project’s design with communities across the state. In April the roadshow was presented in Huonville, New Norfolk, and Campbell Town. This follows on from the Hobart Stadium Design Showcase last year, click here to learn about the Stadium design.​
The shortlisted participants from the Expression of Interest for the Main Contractor for the Stadium were announced. The shortlisted participants, Constructure Joint Venture, comprising Webuild S.p.A and China Construction Oceania, with McConnell Dowell as a key delivery partner and Besix Watpac, entered the Request for Tender Stage 1.
The Mac Point Master Plan was released following acceptance by the Australian Government and builds on the Mac Point Precinct Plan. It provides a statutory and strategic framework to deliver the Mac Point Precinct.
The Master Plan is supported by the Housing Plan for a Residential Development and Public Foreshore Zone at Regatta Point as part of the Mac Point Precinct.
The Request for Tender for the design, dismantling, storage, and rebuild of the Goods Shed and removal of the Red Shed and Request for Tender for the Site Preparation Works – Bulk Excavation and Civil Contractor procurements continued.
An Impact Assessment on Road Reserves for Bulk Earthworks was submitted to the Secretary of the Department of State Growth for approval as per Schedule 1, Part 4, B12 and B13 of the State Policies and Projects (Macquarie Point Precinct) Order 2025.
MARCH 2026
The roof test rig established at Macquarie Point opened for trial of the identified ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) specifications for the roof of the Stadium, including professional cricket players visiting to test the conditions.

FEBRUARY 2026
An Industry briefing session was held on 25 February in Hobart, with options to attend online. The event was an opportunity to provide industry with visibility on upcoming trade packages and procurement pathways, that will support the delivery of the Macquarie Point Multipurpose Stadium. The presentation was published on the MPDC website here.
​A roof test rig was established at Macquarie Point to trial the identified ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) specifications for the roof of the Stadium. ETFE is a high-strength polymer material that has been used on several other roofed stadiums in Munich, Beijing, Dunedin and Las Vegas, and locally in locations such as at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
​The Expression of Interest for the Main Contractor for the Stadium closed on 11 February 2026. A team of subject matter experts and two-tiered evaluation panel, commenced consideration and assessment of the Expressions of Interest received to shortlist participants to be part of the subsequent two-stage Request for Tender process. JANUARY 2026
​​The State Policies and Projects (Macquarie Point Precinct) Order 2025 was passed in late 2025, granting planning approval for the Macquarie Point Multipurpose Stadium. This marked a significant milestone for the Stadium Project, authorising it to proceed and marking the transition from planning into procurement.
​The Expression of Interest for the Main Contractor for the Stadium was launched on 10 January 2026, commencing this procurement.
​The Request for Tender for the Site Preparation Works – Bulk Excavation and Civil Contractor closed on Wednesday 28 January 2026. The Macquarie Point Development Corporation next assessed submissions, ahead of appointing a contractor.
A Request for Tender for the design, dismantling, storage, and rebuild of the Goods Shed and removal of the Red Shed was issued.
