Mac Point is a 9.3 hectare site situated between the Cenotaph, Evans Street, TasPorts and Davey Street.

A refreshed precinct plan, released in September 2024, is supporting the urban renewal of the Mac Point site. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Places of Interest

Red Square

Red Square is a community space featuring food vans and Hobart Brewing Co.

Yard 16

Yard 16 is Mac Point’s newest community space, featuring two half basketball courts, our immersive art container, outdoor seating and the relocated Edible Precinct.

Art Installation

An immersive art container installation has been opened in Mac Point’s new community space, Yard 16. 

History

Site History

Mac Point has a layered history spanning nearly 200 years—from its origins with the muwinina people to its use as a farm, industrial hub, and military site.

The Goods Shed

The Goods Shed was built in the early 20th century to service a new rail yard at Mac Point, as Hobart freight volumes and exports increased.

Royal Engineers Building

Mac Point is home to the Royal Engineers Building, which was established in 1847 and will continue to remain in public hands as part of any development at Mac Point. 

Ground work

Remediation

Since 2015, the site has undergone extensive remediation activities to prepare the site for permanent future development.

 

Geotechnical work

A comprehensive geotechnical investigation has been undertaken to assess the ground conditions at the Macquarie Point site.
