January 2026 Update
Past Achievements & Activities

The State Policies and Projects (Macquarie Point Precinct) Order 2025 was passed in late 2025, granting planning approval for the Macquarie Point Multipurpose Stadium. This marks a significant milestone for the Stadium Project, authorising it to proceed and marking the transition from planning and design into procurement.

The Expression of Interest for the Main Contractor for the Stadium was launched on 10 January 2026, commencing this procurement.

The Request for Tender for the Site Preparation Works – Bulk Excavation and Civil Contractor closed on Wednesday 28 January 2026. The Macquarie Point Development Corporation will now assess submissions, ahead of appointing a contractor.

A select tender request has also been issued to all locally qualified waste treatment facilities to confirm disposal capacity and establish schedules of rates for fill that will be removed as part of bulk excavations.

A Request for Tender for the design, dismantling, storage, and rebuild of the Goods Shed and removal of the Red Shed was issued and closes on 4 February 2026.
Upcoming Milestones

The Expression of Interest for the Main Contractor for the Stadium will close on 11 February 2026. Through the Expression of Interest process the responses will be carefully reviewed and assessed to shortlist participants to be part of the subsequent two-stage Request for Tender process. Further information on the process is available here.

An Industry Day briefing session is planned for late February to share upcoming work packages for the Stadium Project for interested businesses in construction, engineering, architecture, plumbing, electrical services and associated trades.

A Stadium Design Roadshow is planned to take place across Tasmania in March 2026. The Roadshow will provide an opportunity to share the Stadium Project’s 70 per cent design with communities across the state, including Huonville, New Norfolk, Queenstown, Bicheno, Campbell Town, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie.
A test rig will be established at Macquarie Point to trial the identified ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) specifications for the roof of the Stadium. ETFE is a high-strength polymer material that has been used on several other roofed stadiums in Munich, Beijing, Dunedin and Las Vegas, and locally in locations such as at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.

Yard 16 has closed and Red Square will close to the public from 2 March 2026, to maintain public safety as key site activities progress.
