TRANSPORT

We are planning our site to provide choices about how you can arrive and depart on event days, and every day.

This includes setting targets to encourage public and active transport options.

Our targets are based on best practice for moving large volumes of people to and from major events.

Transport studies carried out:

In our studies, existing and planned future transport infrastructure were considered.

Key studies complete to date are:

Precinct Plan Transport Access Study (2023)

This study helped inform our Precinct Plan and developed the target transport type splits and the requirements of each transport type.

Transport Study (2024)

This study built on the Precinct Plan Transport Access Study and was submitted within the Project of State Significance.

It has three parts:

  • Origins Study – Examines where stadium visitors are likely to travel from and how they will travel, utilising the AFL Devils membership data.

  • Traffic and Transport Model – Analyses current traffic and transport patterns and how stadium events will impact them based on where visitors travel from.

  • Transport Plan – Assesses transport options and strategies to ensure safe and efficient movement of visitors to and from the stadium.

Ongoing work
  • We will also undertake project-based studies of traffic movements around our site.

Key facts

  • The stadium’s CBD location supports a sustainable event travel plan. It’s close to public transport, car parking, major roads and hospitality venues, which can help manage crowd movement after events.

  • The target is for 60% of patrons to take non-car transport and 40% to use a private vehicle including taxis and ride share, on event days. This will result in faster, more efficient travel.

  • When the stadium is sold out for a 24,500 seated capacity event, if most patrons arrive by car (60%), traffic will be no worse than the drive to work or school on a weekday morning. If we’re able to encourage people to use event day buses and other transport modes, the journey to and from the stadium will be much faster.

  • In total there are approximately 6000 existing carparking spots within 1.2km of the stadium site. This is sufficient for the needs of major stadium events.
